Origami journal seeks short prose and photography; The Broken City wants food related stories, essays, reviews,poetry and photography

Origami Journal is a new online publication founded by Lorna and Laura, two gals with one goal in mind: Celebrating and promoting original literature and photography that uniquely capture the human experience. 

As writers and avid enthusiasts of literature and visual art, they recognize the importance of publications that foster and support developing talent; and nothing brightens their days more than discovering fresh voices and lenses!

Like the art of origami, Origami Journal reflects the human ability to take something ordinary, like a piece of paper, and transform it into something extraordinary. Published quarterly in winter, spring, summer, and fall, Origami seeks to bring together creative minds and stimulate the imagination.

Origami accepts short stories, both fiction and non-fiction, that are unpublished and do not exceed 2,000 words. Origami also accepts original photography that has not been used elsewhere for publication.

We may publish some recipes, but they’d better be mind-blowing; we’re not looking to make a cookbook, here. We’re more interested in seeing how a ham sandwich might make its way into a sonnet.

Nothing that fits the theme? Send something anyway; there may be room for non-conforming work too.

The Broken City will – at least briefly – consider any type of submission, the most common being: poetry, fiction, essays, comics, illustrations, photography, music/book reviews. Prose (fiction, essay, etc.) submissions must not exceed 3,000 words. Poetry submissions should contain no more than five poems. Full guidelines here.

The Broken City is currently a non-paying publication. It is primarily a venue for new writers in search of exposure, publishing credits and glory, but does not discriminate against established submitters.
