Union Literary describes itself as “a full-service boutique agency specializing in literary fiction, popular fiction, narrative non-fiction, memoir, social history, business and general big idea books, popular science, cookbooks and food writing. We excel at project development, hands-on editing and placing our projects with domestic and foreign publishers, film and television companies.”

Kezia Toth is the newest agent on the team at Union Literary and so the one most in need of authors. Kezia hails from Concord, MA, and is a graduate of Barnard College with a Masters in American Cultural Criticism from Columbia University. Her recent hiring at Union Literary marks the beginning of Kezia’s career as a full time agent.

Kezia is especially interested in narrative nonfiction, big ideas books, American cultural history, including pop culture, and she is passionate about all sorts of fiction including Young Adult and Middle Grade.

Direct your query specifically to Kezia (or another agent). Nonfiction submissions should include a query letter, a proposal and a sample chapter. Fiction submissions should include a query letter, synopsis, and either sample pages or the full manuscript.

Brian Henry will lead a "How to Get Published” workshop on Saturday, May 4, in Barrie, with guest literary agent Olga Filina of The Rights Factory (see here). 

Also, Brian will host “From the Horse’s Mouth: Getting published or self-published” at Ryerson University on June 15 with Stacey Donaghy of the Corvisiero Literary Agency, Greg Ioannou of Iguana Books, and Patrick Crean of HarperCollins Canada (details here).

However, before you submit, though, the best way to get your manuscript into shape is with a weekly course. This summer, Brian will be leading Intensive Creative Writing courses on Tuesday afternoons in Burlington (details here) and on Thursday evenings in Mississauga (details here).
