The new online litmag Sassafras Literary Magazine is eagerly awaiting your submission. Please read the submission guidelines and send poetry, fiction, nonfiction, flash fiction and digital art to sassafrasmag@outlook.com

No pay, just glory. Sassafras is starting out online but we plan to produce a print edition and a chapbook within 6-12 months.

Sassafras is a biweekly litmag, a new online issue is published every other Monday. Sassafras is accepting simultaneous submissions, looking for new writers and voices. Art is welcome, anyone sending their first work is even more welcome.

Sassafras is, and wants to be, a small energetic beast of contagious twitching, turning and skipping. Scars may be visible, laughter is optional, and grinding of teeth sometimes included.

carte blanche and the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society have teamed up to bring you a Canada-wide creative nonfiction contest.

The winner will receive $500 and her/his text will be published in carte blanche. Submit original, previously unpublished creative nonfiction – maximum word length 3,000 words (no minimum). The competition is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

Entry fee: $12 (or $7 for members of the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society) To find out about the collective see here.

carte blanche also accepts regular submissions from early November through March 1. Their mandate is to provide a venue for narrative of all forms from fiction and nonfiction, to poetry and photo essays.

Ruminate Magazine (US) is a quarterly magazine of short stories, poetry, creative nonfiction, and visual art that resonate with the complexity and truth of the Christian faith. Each issue is a themed forum for literature and art that speaks to the existence of our daily lives while nudging us toward a greater hope. Because of this, we strive to publish quality work accounting for the grappling pleas, as well as the quiet assurances of an authentic faith. Ruminate Magazine was created for every person who has paused over a good word, a real story, a perfect brushstroke – longing for the significance they point us toward. Ruminate invites entries for the 2013 William Van Dyke Short Story Prize. Prize: $1,500 and publication in Spring 2013 issue. Length: 5,500 words max.
