Signature Editions acquires literary novels, poetry and nonfiction with literary merit

Signature Editions
P.O. Box 206, RPO Corydon
Winnipeg, MB R3M 3S7

Signature Editions is a well-established small literary press. It was founded in Montreal in 1986 as a publishing collective called Nuage Editions. Karen Haughiant acquired the press and moved it to Winnipeg in 1997 and in 2000 renamed it Signature Editions.

Signature Editions primarily publishes poetry, literary fiction and mysteries, drama, and nonfiction work with literary merit. They do not publish children's books, romance novels, or self-help books. Signature is a small press, so while it receives a few hundred submissions a year, it publishes only eight to ten new books.

Signature publishes many first books, but almost without exception, their authors have already seen their work in print elsewhere. If your work has never been published before, start sending your poetry, short stories or excerpts to literary magazines. When you've got some other publications under your belt, Signature will look at your manuscript. Also, Signature only publishes authors who are Canadian citizens, though non-Canadian authors are sometimes included in a specific anthology.

Mail (no email submissions) the full manuscript or a sample (5 stories or chapters, 25 poems, or approximately 50 pages). First submissions should also include a covering letter, a synopsis of the work, and a curriculum vitae specifying previous publications, as well as copies of reviews from previous publications.

For drama submissions, please include copies of reviews from professional productions of your play. Poetry manuscripts are read only between January and June. Manuscripts received after June 30 will be returned unread. Other manuscripts are read year round.
