This workshop will show you how writers plot a novel, control your pacing and create a character arc. Best yet, you’ll see how to apply the story-building techniques you’ve learned to your own writing.
Workshop leader Brian Henry has been a book editor and creative writing teacher for more than 25 years. 
Guest speaker Lynda Simmons has published eight novels and has built a reputation for herself as an outstanding novelist. Her most recent novels are Island Girl and Getting Rid of Rosie (both from Berkley Books, a Penguin USA imprint).  

New material: At the workshop, Linda will share her insights into into plotting novels and using point of view, and she’ll also give tips on keeping your creativity flowing through the summer months.

“How to Get Published”
~ An editor & a literary agent tell all ~

If you've ever dreamed of becoming a published author, this workshop is for you. We’ll cover everything from getting started to getting an agent, from getting your short pieces published to finding a book publisher, from writing a query letter to writing what the publishers want. Bring your questions. Come and get ready to be published!
Special Option: Participants are invited to bring a draft of a query letter you might use to interest an agent or publisher in your book. You don’t need to bring anything, but if you do, 3 copies could be helpful.
Workshop leader Brian Henry has been a book editor and creative writing instructor for more than 25 years. 
Guest speaker Maria Vicente is an Associate Agent with the P.S. Literary Agency. She’s the only literary agent based in Ottawa. Maria is actively looking for literary and commercial fiction, for young adult and middle grade books, and for illustrated picture books. In nonfiction, she’s seeking projects in the pop culture, pop psychology, design, and lifestyle categories.
