Puritan magazine pays for your work; also wanted: memoir, humour, pure dialogue, and horror

Online magazine JONAHmagazine (Canada) is looking for stories of “journeys, in space, in time, in the heart, or in the mind. Beginnings, endings, triumphs and frustrations, odysseys of the soul.” Accepts poetry, prose, true stories, memoir, illustration.

The Parenthetical Review is a cross-disciplinary publication that encompasses literature, the humanities and the arts. It seeks innovative and new voices that can present complex subjects to a general reading audience. Open to fiction submissions (approx. 5,000 words), essays and creative nonfiction (approx. 7,000 words). Humour, speculative fiction, flash fiction, research-based non-fiction and immersion journalism also considered.

Bartleby Snopes Literary Magazine invites entries for their 6th Annual Dialogue Only Contest. Compose a short story entirely of dialogue, using as many characters as you want. First prize:minimum of $300. Five finalists published in Issue 13 of the magazine. Length: 2,000 words max. Entry fee: $10.

Puritan Magazine Contest: The Thomas Morton Memorial Prize in Literary Excellence is awarded to the single best submission in the respective categories of poetry and fiction. The prize is open for submissions each year from January 1st to September 30th through our online submissions manager. The judges for this year’s prize are Margaret Atwood (for poetry) and Zsuzsi Gartner (for fiction).

In addition to publication in Issue 27: Fall 2014, each winning author receives $1,000 as well as a prize pack of books drawn from 17 donating publishers, each valued at approximately $750.

Maximum 8,000 words. Entry fee: $15.

The Puritan also seeks submissions all year round – and pays for them.

Regular submissions to the magazine are free of charge and should fall under one of five categories: fiction, essays, poetry, interviews, and reviews. 

Our current publication rates stand as:

$50 per interview,

$50 per essay or review,

$40 per work of fiction, and

$15 per poem.

Check back with the magazine regularly; The Puritan is working ever assiduously to increase these figures.

Please note that the publication rates for works that appear in our occasional Supplement Series are reduced due to volume. Each accepted work of non-fiction, fiction, or group of poems will receive an honorarium of $20. Complete submission guidelines here.

New writing site the Tandem Region Times (Canada) is open for submissions. TRT is an online, horror-themed newspaper about a fictional municipality called Tandem Region.

Stories are encouraged to be concept-heavy and adhere to conventional news report structure. TRT also welcomes columns, reviews, classifieds, and other content within the thematic boundaries. 

Open to experimental themes, gore, psychological, and anything interesting.
