Waxman Leavell Literary is expanding, and has hired four new agents all at once. All of them are actively looking for new authors. Waxman Leavell also hired two new agents last year, who are both actively building their list:

Cassie Hanjian formerly worked in foreign rights at The Park Literary Agency and was a literary scout for Aram Fox.

In fiction, Cassie is actively acquiring New Adult novels, plot-driven commercial and upmarket women’s fiction, psychological suspense, cozy mysteries and contemporary romance.

In nonfiction, she’s looking for projects in the categories of parenting, mind/body/spirit, inspirational memoir, narrative nonfiction focussing on food-related topics, and a limited number of accessible cookbooks.

Fleetwood Robbins was an editor and publicist at the science fiction and fantasy publisher Del Rey Books (owned by Random House). His acquisitions included Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory, The Man with the Iron Heart by Harry Turtledove, Babylon Babies by Maurice Dantec, and  Maledicte by Lane Robins.

He was also a developmental editor at Wizards of the Coast a company that develops role-playing games, primarily based on science fiction and fantasy. At Wizards, Fleetwood was the developmental editor for The Mongoliad Cycle by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, et al, and the subsequent Forworld Saga spin-offs.

Fleetwood considers fantasy his specialty but he has a passion for all speculative fiction, including alternate history, military SF, space opera, steampunk, and all the other myriad subgenres. He`s looking for a distinct voice, a good sense of story, and strong characterization.

Kirsten Carlton was formerly with Sobel Weber Associates.  She has a B.A. in English with a creative writing concentration from Amherst College and a Graduate Certificate in Publishing from the Columbia Publishing Course.

She is seeking upmarket young adult, speculative, and literary fiction. “I’m drawn to books that capture my attention early on with a dynamic plot and innovative story-telling that blends or crosses genres.

Julie Stevenson was formerly with Sobel Weber Associates and in the editorial departments of Tin House and Publishers Weekly. She has a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College.

She is looking for literary fiction with unforgettable characters and a strong sense of narrative tension. She’s also seeking atmospheric thrillers and suspense-driven work.

Taylor Haggerty joined Waxman Leavell as a literary agent last year, and like all new agents, she’s looking for authors. Taylor is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and received a master’s degree from Emerson College’s Publishing and Writing program. Before joining Waxman Leavell, she worked at the Gersh Agency.

Taylor is actively seeking middle grade and young adult novels of all genres, historical fiction, women’s fiction, and romance – contemporary, historical and young adult.

Rachel Vogel joined Waxman Leavell in 2013. She previously held positions at Mary Evans Inc., Lippincott Massie McQuilkin, and at the literary scouting agency Maria Campbell Associates.

Rachel is primarily interested in nonfiction. She’s looking for subject-driven narratives, memoirs and biorgraphy, journalism, popular culture, and the occasional humor and gift book.

She’s very selective with fiction but is drawn to novels that pay equal attention to voice and story and to literary fiction that pops off the page.

Brian Henry will lead "From the Horse’s Mouth: Strategies for Getting Published" at Ryerson University in Toronto on Saturday, Nov 29, with literary agent Rachel Letofsky of the Cooke Agency, Senior Editor Anne Shone of Scholastic, and Marketing and Publicity Manager Stephen Myers of Penguin Books (see here).

Brian will lead a "How to Get Published" workshop in Niagara on the Lake on Sunday, March 1, with literary agent Olga Filina (see here).

And Brian has a “Writing for Children & for Young Adults" workshop on Saturday, Nov 8, in Guelph (see here).
