Free contest for virgin writers; The Aspiring Canadian Poets Contest invites entries from Canadian poets (19+) who have not published any original creative writing (poems or prose). Prize: Online publication and private online mentoring sessions with the contest judge (valued at $1,000). No entry fee.

Cranberry Tree Press (a self-publishing outfit in Windsor, ON) invites entries for the “You Should Enter This!” Poetry Chapbook Contest. Grand prize: 100 print copies (Value: approx. $1,000).Length: 24-36 manuscript pages. No length limits on individual poems. Maximum of 25% of the poems may be previously published. Entry fee: $20.

Big Pond Rumours, the International Literary E-Zine is looking for entries of poetry or story to the contest in every issue. We have two issues a year with the deadline for the summer issue being June 30 and deadline for the Summer issue is November 30. Big Pond strives to have two independent Judges for each issue and delivers publication and $350 in prizes to the contest winners. We have no particular preference for genre and the primary requirement is that all submissions be previously unpublished.

The Flexible Persona is a biweekly literary journal that publishes fiction in audio and print format. Publishes engaging, character-driven fiction. Like stories of how characters sustain themselves in the context of relationships and communities. Length: 1,200 – 6,600 words.
