Tundra Books is part of Random House Canada.  Tundra was founded in 1967 by May Cutler, a Montreal-based writer and editor. In 1995, the company was sold to McClelland and Stewart and, in 1996, moved to Toronto. In 2012 M&S was acquired by Random House, giving some muscle to Tundra’s distribution.

Tundra's newest venture is the re-introduction of a storybook format, which had been popular before World War II, to combine the beauty of picture books with more complex and longer stories.

At the present time Tundra is accepting few unsolicited manuscripts, and none in the picture book genre. If, however, you have something that you feel is exceptional, you may send it by mail with a stamped, self-addressed envelope for its return. In your covering letter you should include your writing background and relevant credentials (published books, honors and awards).  

Of course, Tundra may be more welcoming to agented submissions.

Yasemin Ucar 

Brian Henry will lead a "Writing for Children & for Young Adults," workshop with guest speaker Yasemin Ucar, Senior Editor, Kids Can Press, on Saturday, September 12, in Toronto (see here).
