Free short story contest, poetry contest with €1,000 prize and a week in Ireland, plus 2 more contests and publisher seeks manuscripts for hand-crafted editions

Free contest: Words & Brushes invites writers to write a short story (length: 2000-5000 words) around an artwork from their image gallery. First prize: $300. Participants may enter as many stories as they like. No entry fee.

The Munster Literature Centre (Ireland) invites entries for the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Competition. First prize: €1000, a writer’s retreat at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, a trip to Ireland, and publication in Southword Journal. Second prize €500; third €250, plus ten runners-up €30, and publication in Southward for all winners and runners-up.  Entry fee of €5 per poem or €20 per batch of five. Open to international entrants. Length: 40 lines. Theme: open.

Cosmonauts Avenue invites entries for their inaugural CA Poetry Prize, judged by Claudia Rankine. Winner receives $500 and publication. Submit two poems max. per entry. Entry fee: $10.

Another New Calligraphy publishes limited-edition CDs and handmade books in Chicago. Seeks work that balances originality and sincerity, and writing that “exists within its own space, rather than making concessions to genre or attempts at mass accessibility.” Prefers shorter written material (poetry and short-form nonfiction writing).
