Waxman Leavell Literary is an expanding agency, having added half a dozen new agents to its crew in the past few years, bringing its roster up to ten literary agents, all but one accepting – or actively looking for – new authors.

Molly O’Neill is the newest member of the team. Prior to joining Waxman Leavell, Molly spent thirteen years in the children’s publishing industry: as an editor at HarperCollins Children’s books, where she acquired Veronica Roth’s Divergent series, as head of editorial at Storybird, and in School & Library Marketing at HaprerCollins and at Clarion Books.

“I am most actively seeking middle grand and young adult fiction and picture book author/illustrators,” says Molly. More selectively, she’s also looking for narrative nonfiction, including children’s, middle grade, young adult, pop science or pop culture, and lifestyle, food, travel and/or cookbook projects by authors with well-established platforms.

“In all categories, I’m drawn to character-driven explorations of universal human stories, truths and experiences,” says Molly. And to “plots driven by a compelling ‘what if’; a vivid sense of place and/or world-building; narratives about creativity, community and the intersections of unexpectedly connected topics; groundbreaking themes, formats and voices; masterful, original writing; and stories that will surprise and delight readers.”

Molly does not represent adult fiction, poetry, chapbooks, screenplays or erotica.
