Literary journals seek short stories, true stories, poetry, and more

Door is a Jar Magazine is looking for well-crafted poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama and artwork for the Fall issue of its bi-annual online and print publication. Door is a Jar steers away from academic writing, and publishes short, conversational works that use familiar language. The magazine features new artists and writers and works that are accessible for all readers. Works that are confusing, abstract, or unnecessarily fancy will not be considered. Our entry guards stand firm against academic jigsaw puzzles. 

The submission period for the Fall issue opens April 2, 2016 and will close October 1, 2016. Full submission guidelines here.

The Chaos is a new journal of personal narrative, publishing true stories of personal growth, lessons learned, life-changing events, and milestones from emerging and established writers. From the editor: “We’re looking for the stories you are afraid to tell, but know you must” — unique perspectives on familiar experiences, writing that ventures into the mind of the writer or the scene of the story.

Deadline: Rolling.

Online journal Praise Writers is relaunching and looking for submissions. Poems, stories, articles, devotionals and testimonies must mention “Jesus,” “God,” or “Holy Spirit.”

Flash fiction podcast No Extra Words seeks stories 2,000 words max, with a preference for stories under 1,000 words. Accepts reprints and loves emerging writers. No reading fees or deadlines.

Swept is a magazine based in Toronto that promotes and investigates arts and culture with an emphasis on Canadian content. Currently looking for short stories, poetry, photos, and journalistic stories/articles/op-eds. Presently unpaid; goal to start paying contributors by September 2016.
