Established in 1928, McIntosh & Otis is an elder statesmen among American literary agencies. It’s a full-service literary agency, representing a broad range of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction. Five of the six agents at M&O are accepting new authors, including company president and senior editor Elizabeth Winick Rubinstein. But four M&O agents are of special interest to new authors, looking for an agent who’s trying to build her list:

Ameilia Appel is a junior agent, and like all new agents, she needs authors. Prior to joininb McIntosh & Otis, Amelia interned at HSG Agency and Writers House, where she was later an assistant. She joined M&O in 2014 as an assistant and is now seeking to build her own list of authors as a junior agent.
Amelia is primarily looking for adult fiction and some young adult. For adult, she is most interested in literary fiction, mystery, thriller, historical fiction, science fiction and fantasy, and horror. She especially likes projects with a smart, distinct voice, a fantastic setting to jump into, and/or a witty protagonist.
For young adult, Amelia’s interested in stories with a a savvy protagonist and slightyly dark tone that deals with serious coming-of-age issues.

Shira Hoffman began her career in publishing as an intern at Tor Books and started working at McIntosh and Otis in 2007 and became Director of Subsidiary Rights in 2013. Shira is now also developing her own list of authors and is seeking a broad range of fiction and nonfiction for adults, as well as an occasional young adult or middle grade title.
Shira’s primary interests include mainstream commercial fiction, mystery, literary fiction, literary thrillers, women’s fiction, romance, urban fantasy, fantasy, science fiction, and horror.
Shira is particularly keen to acquire projects that push genre boundaries without shattering them and challenge the way readers see the world. She hopes to discover writers with well-developed and original voices.
For more detailed information on what Shira is looking for, see her Get to Know the Agent blog post.

Adam Muhlig is that latest addition to the staff at McIntosh and Otis and as a newbie, he needs authors. Adam’s editorial work includes research, organization and indexing of Kark Shapiro’s essay collection: Creative Glut. He also assisted Alan Tennnant on his now classic, NYT bestseller, On the Wing. As an archival appraiser, Adam has worked on collections by many noted musicians and entertainment industry figures, naturalists, historians and poets and writers, including several U.S. Poets Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winners.
Adam wants books about popular culture, natural history, travel, adventure and sports. He’s pursuing books that offer a fresh perspective or new analysis by or about mavericks in these fields. He’s seeking works that will have classic value and long-term strength.

Christa Heschke has been with McIntosh and Otis in the Children’s literature department since 2009 and is actively acquiring for all age groups. Christa graduated from Binghamton University with a major in English and a minor in Anthropology. She started in publishing as an intern at both Writers House and Sterling Lord Literistic, where she fell in love with the agency side of publishing.
For young adult, Christa is especially interested in contemporary, thriller/mystery, fantasy, and horror. She looks for a compelling voice and strong hook that will set a YA novel apart in this flooded market.
Christa is open to all types of middle grade and especially enjoys adventure, mystery, and magical realism.
For both YA and MG, she is interested in unique setting and cultural influences, interesting structure, complicated romances, diverse characters, sister- or friendship-centric stories, and stories that feature artists of any kind.
In picture books, she drawn to cute, funny stories (as opposed to sweet and quiet) that will grab kids, as well as the occasional nonfiction biography on a subject whose sotry has yet to be told.
