Painted Words is a small New York based agency specializing in Kid Lit, picture books to young adult, and representing both authors and illustrators.

Lori Nowicki is the founder of Painted Words. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education and worked extensively as a teacher and specialist in public schools for ten years prior to starting her agency. She has brought her background in education to the field of publishing—representing illustrators since 1992.

Lori is currently seeking chapter books, graphic novels, unique, offbeat picture books, and biographies told with a fresh approach. She is looking for authors who are interested in collaborating with our illustrators on new projects.

For picture book manuscripts, please paste the text in the body of your email.  For Chapter Books, MG or YA submissions, please paste the first 10 pages in the body of the email. 

Claire Easton joined Painted Words in 2012 as an Editorial Assistant to Lori and worked her way up to Agent. She is seeking author-illustrated picture books, but also considers the occasional Middle Grade and Young Adult book.

For picture books, she loves humorous character-driven stories; entertaining non-fiction;  timeless stories that can be enjoyed at any age; and books that empower kids and speak to the diversity of children’s experiences. For MG and YA, she likes strong narrative voices, quirky coming-of-age stories, and books that incorporate graphic or illustrative elements.
