Call for Submissions on: Deadworld
Riverdale Avenue Books’ horror imprint, Afraid, is
proud to announce an open call for submissions for short stories and essays on
the world of the classic zombie apocalypse comic book, Deadworld. Deadworld was
the original zombie apocalypse comic series, first published in 1987, featured
a graphic, transgressive, heavy-metal world of ruined cities, biker
gangs, demons and chilling hordes of the walking dead that captivated
audiences at the dawn of the modern age of comic books.
Riverdale Avenue Books seeks prose fiction and essays alike that can
recapture the energy, impact and themes of the original comic while bringing to
the work the contemporary sensibilities and additional development that have
arisen from the past thirty years of zombie fiction. Essays on the impact of
the series, its place in zombie history and culture and tributes to the comic’s
late creator, Gary Reed are welcome and appreciated.
Fiction submissions should range from 1,000 to 7,000 words, while essays
should range from 500 to 2,5000. Please include a brief autobiography with
your submission.
Payment will be a pro-rata share of all revenue split equally among the
authors. Each author will receive a digital copy of the book, as well as one
print copy.
Riverdale Avenue Books is a hybrid publisher, with simultaneous
publication in the English language throughout the world with 95
e-vendors, as well as print copies available to bookstores and libraries. We
have an aggressive sub-rights agent who will be handling the audio and foreign
rights.

Adventure Cyclist magazine seeks feature-length stories, which must be accompanied by high quality
photographs, and essays about a singular experience while on a bicycle trip.
These run at 1,200–1,500 words and don't require accompanying photos. Pays 30–50 cents/word.

World Unknown Review seeks poetry and fiction. Accepts reprints. Pays $15 per piece. Also seeks cover art; pays $25.
Horror Addicts seeks horror stories for anthology. Your story must
involve music in some way. It could relate to some specific genre or song or to
the creation of music, an instruments or even the lack of music. Pays
$10.
Chicken
Soup for the Soul is always looking for true stories and poetry and pays $200. Here are the current topics they’re
looking for:
Christmas and
Holiday Collection – 2018: People love reading about the winter holidays – from Thanksgiving all
the way through New Year’s Day. We want to hear about your traditions and how
they came to be. We want to hear about your holiday memories and the rituals
that create the foundation of your life. We love to hear about the funny things
too: the ugly holiday sweaters, the gingerbread house that kept falling down,
the re-gifting embarrassments and the fruit cake disasters.” Deadline: October 30, 2017.

Stories: We’re
looking for stories about how you found love. And how you kept it fresh over
the years. New love, old love, please warm our hearts with your stories and
poems.
Please note this book is for
adults, not teen. We’re happy to hear about your high school sweetheart if you
ended up together, but we are not looking for stories from current teens about
teen relationships.

Best Advice I Ever Heard: Have you ever read a Chicken Soup for the Soul story
that had a wonderful piece of advice in it that made a difference in your life?
Have you ever watched a movie or read an article that really had an impact on
you that you haven’t been able to forget? Do you have a friend or family member
who gave you some advice that you didn’t necessarily want to hear but really
needed to hear that stuck with you and directed you to make positive changes in
your life?
We are looking for stories that
contain a great piece of advice that you were given or advice that you gave to
someone else. Whether the advice is about a little thing that improve your
everyday life, or major epiphanies that can change a life completely, we want
to hear about them and how they made a difference.
