Massie & McQuilkin is a full-service literary agency that focuses on bringing fiction and non-fiction of quality to the largest possible audience. We work closely with our clients at every stage of a project’s development, submission, and placement—staying involved in all issues of design, publicity and sales, long after the ink has dried on a contract, to ensure that the author’s needs are being met by his or her publisher.

In 2012, MMQ acquired the venerable literary agency Russell & Volkening, Inc. Founded in 1940 by publishing legends Diarmuid Russell and Henry Volkening, and later acquired by Timothy Seldes before its acquisition by MMQ, Russell & Volkening joined MMQ intact as a corporate entity. With its list have come the works of some of the most noted writers in the history of American publishing, including Eudora Welty, Bernard Malamud, Anne Tyler, George Plimpton, Barbara Tuchman, and South African Nobel Prize winner Nadine Gordimer. These writers and others join LMQ's own growing list of acclaimed fiction and nonfiction writers.

The newest member of the team is Lexi Wangler, who was promoted to junior agent & foreign rights associate just a couple weeks ago, on September 27. Like all new agents, she needs authors.

Lexi holds a dual MFA in Fiction and Writing for Children from The New School. She graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans in 2013 and worked at PEN American Center and the Irene Skolnick Literary Agency.

Lexi assists Maria Massie on all foreign rights for Massie & McQuilkin, and is looking for books that focus on complex, three-dimensional characters, especially women and non-binary people. She is passionate about representation across the race, class, gender and sexuality spectrum and uplifting voices that historically have had less of an opportunity to resonate. Subverting genre boundaries and strong, distinct voices are appealing to her, as are books that reflect truth back to the reader.

Her MFA background is proof of her strong dedication to exemplary writing, and she prizes a clear narrative above all else. 

Lexi is primarily looking for literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction, crime fiction, cultural criticism, narrative nonfiction, essay collections, memoir and young adult fiction.
