The Tobias Agency was founded by agent Lane Heymont in 2016. It is a full-service literary agency head-quartered in New York with satellite offices in Boston, Nashville, and {soon} Los Angeles. Currently, Tobias has three agents, all accepting queries:

Maria Rogers originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Kenyon College before cutting her teeth in the publishing business as an intern at Writers House. She went on to work as an editorial assistant at W.W. Norton & Co. and later as an editor at Scholastic.
Her work experience has given her insight into many realms of reading, from nonfiction and poetry to literary and commercial fiction, to books for children and young adults.
Maria is accepting both nonfiction and fiction, including graphic novels. In nonfiction she is currently looing for nonfiction that explores big events from new angle, whip-smart cultural criticism, and original and urgent journalism and science writing.
She’s also on the look-out for books to engage kids in nonfiction topics, from ancient history to contemporary issues.
She is not currently considering poetry, picture books, romance, science fiction, or fantasy.
Some books she’s recently enjoyed have been THE UNWINDING by George Packer, WAYWARD LIVES, BEAUTIFUL EXPERIMENTS by Saidiya Hartman, IN THE DREAM HOUSE by Carmen Maria Machado, BOTTLE OF LIES by Katherine Eban, RIVER by Elisha Cooper, and PET by Akwaeke Emezi.

For fiction and nonfiction include a sample of up to 30 pages. For graphic novel submissions, include a synopsis, sample lo-res images and links to your portfolio.

Matt Belford joined the Tobias Agency in January 2020 after previously working at the David Black Agency and the Aaron M. Priest Agency. He received his Master in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College.
A lover of all things science fiction and fantasy, Matt accepts his nerd status readily. Some of his favorite reads include: THE SUMMONER by Gail Z Martin, KINGS OF THE WYLD by Nicholas Eames, TRAIL OF LIGHTNING by Rebecca Roanhorse, and RED RISING by Pierce Brown.

Include the first 25 pages of your manuscript in the body of your email Queries with attachments will be deleted unread.

Lane Heymont began his publishing career in 2012 at the Seymour Agency and in 2016 formed the Tobias Agency. Lane was the #1 agent for horror on Publishers Marketplace and in the top ten for women’s fiction and romance.
Some of his favorite reads include: FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley, THE HUNGER by Alma Katsu, SKELETONS AT THE FEAST by Chris Bohjalian, KNIGHT OF THE BLACK ROSE by James Lowder, the DRAGONLANCE CHRONICLES by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, IN COLD BLOOD BY Truman Capote, I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS by Maya Angelou, and THE DINOSAUR ARTIST by Paige Williams.
His favorite writers include Sheridan Le Fanu, Mary Shelley, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Alma Katsu, Chris Bohjalian, and Lovecraft despite his politics and gross bigotry.
Lane represents a broad range of commercial fiction and serious nonfiction.
In fiction, he is open to speculative fiction, horror, thrillers, women’s fiction, romance, and select YA. He prefers contemporary settings and {like everyone else} is always looking for #Ownvoices in both fiction and nonfiction.
In nonfiction, he is seeking memoirs, celebrity projects, science, cultural studies, history, and has a particular interest in true crime.
