Pandemic prose and poetry wanted for an anthology

Hi Brian,

Hope all is well with you and your family. I thought this might be of interest.

I received a grant from the City of Burlington Community Support Fund to launch Writing the Rollercoaster - Stories of riding out the pandemic in Burlington. The goal is to publish a book of 50 true stories and poems written by people of all ages and from all demographics in May of this year.

Looking for submissions from anyone with even the loosest connection to Burlington. If you live, work or study here, went to school here, have family, friends or someone in long term care here, in short anything more than having stopped once to use the bathroom at McDonald's, we'd love to read your story.

{This would include people who have taken a creative writing course in Burlington.}

Lynda

Tell us stories of a moment that made your heart soar or break, things lost and found, lessons learned about yourself and others. Whatever has shaped your view of the pandemic, giving you hope or stealing it, telling your story will help make sense of everything you've been through. Sharing it gives others assurance that they are not alone in what they're feeling.

Make us laugh, make us cry, make us nod our heads and say "Yes, yes, I understand completely." Short narrative, poetry, even a play – the format is up to you. If you need to submit anonymously, we will honour your choice. As long as the story is true, we want to read it.

Yes, the pieces can have been previously published on a blog.

Writing the Rollercoaster will be widely available in trade paperback and ebook format. The books will be free of charge and will be in libraries as well.

You can learn more about the project at: www.writingtherollercoaster.com

I look forward to hearing from you and catching up.
Cheers

After school,  4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

For children 8-12 Writing your true story
Make us laugh, make us cry – Sylvia McNicoll helps you to write about your personal ride on the roller coaster of Covid. She will help you find the brightest diamond of that ride, polish it using your five senses, and give it a strong backbone. Did you get a puppy or miss a friend? Was it warm and fluffy or an icy hollow in your heart. Maybe you will discover your own takeaway through the writing of it. Or maybe you’ll just feel better for getting it out of your head. Share with the world by submitting your finished piece to Writing the Rollercoaster.
