Since being established in Saskatoon in 1975, Thistledown Press has published more than 300 books. Thistledown is committed to publishing literary work of exceptional merit, including novels, short story collections, creative nonfiction, and – occasionally – collections of poetry that they find irresistible.  They will consider young adult novels but do not publish children’s books.

Thistledown only publishes Canadian authors and has a preference for Western Canadian voices {but nor only for Western voices}.  Like everyone, they’re “committed to diversity in all its richness and complexity.”

All queries must be submitted by post, on paper.  In your query package, please include:

• A cover letter that describes your work and its appeal to readers of Canadian literature
• An author bio that includes your publication history
• A brief marketing analysis
• A selection of work from your manuscript.  Depending on the genre, send us the first thirty pages of a novel or nonfiction manuscript, two or three short stories, or fifteen–twenty poems.  Manuscripts must be typed in a standard 12-point font, double-spaced, on 8.5 x 11 inch white paper
• Your contact information, including email address

Thistledown reads submissions lonely between September 1 and May 31.
