“Breast is Best” by Gisele Winton Sarvis

Breast is Best

Ah, the breast

It’s almost all I know

It keeps me alive

It’s where I thrive

It’s my best friend

I pat it hello

and pat it goodnight

It’s my pillow

It’s my lovey

When I’m scared, it protects me

When I’m cold, it warms me

I talk to the breast

Cuddle with the breast

I get angry at the breast

Yell and cry and fight at the breast

And what’s most fun of all?

When I’m done,

I roll over and there’s the other one.

Gisele Winton Sarvis started writing stories while attending what was once a one-room school house. It’s now a museum. Boy does she feel old. She grew up and worked as a journalist for more than 30 years. Now she is returning to her rubber boots and writing for young people.

See Brian Henry’s upcoming weekly writing classes, one-day workshops, and weekend retreats here.
