The Bukowski agency was founded by Denise Bukowski in 1986. The Bukowski Agency represents approximately 70 clients and concentrates on developing business outside the country. It does not represent children's literature, plays, poetry, or screenplays.

Alison Thompson joined the Bukowski Agency as an intern while enrolled in the publishing program at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson). She hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and minor in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph. After graduating, Alison spent a few years working in law and in the nonprofit arts and culture sector before pursuing her passion for books.

In July she was promoted to Associate Agent and is currently building her client list and accepting new submissions. Like all new agents, she needs authors. Alison is primarily looking for character-driven fiction and compelling nonfiction.

Denise Bukowski has worked in book publishing in Canada since 1970, for the first 16 years as an editor and since 1986 as a literary agent. As a staff editor Denise worked for Holt, Rinehart and Winston, McClelland and Stewart (1973-79), McGraw Hill, the Art Gallery of Ontario (Head of Publications), and Douglas & McIntyre (Editorial Director). As a freelance editor she worked for just about every other publisher in Canada, including Penguin, Key Porter, Doubleday, HarperCollins, and University of Toronto Press.

Born in Buffalo, Denise Bukowski grew up in Rochester, New York. She graduated from Boston University and spent her third year at Leeds University in England.

Denise looks for writers whose work can be marketed in many media and territories, and who have the potential to make a living from their work. She specializes in international literary fiction and up-market nonfiction for adults.
