Open mic night in Markham, Thursday, May 12, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

People’s Choice author Bruce Hunter will read from his novel, In the Bear’s House, a coming-of-age story about a deaf child sent to live in the wilderness of historic Kootenay Plains in Alberta.

Bruce’s work has appeared in thirty journals including Canadian Fiction Magazine, The Canadian Forum, Grain, NeWest Review, Poetry Canada Review, and has been broadcast on the CBC.

His poetry has been recognized via People’s Choice Awards and short-listed for CBC/ Saturday Night Literary Awards. Don’t miss your chance to hear from “one of the great chroniclers of Canada’s working people.” (London Free Press)

Come up to the mic to share your own story or poem. Sign up between 6:45 and 7:00 to hold your spot in the lineup. (18 years and older, please.)

Musical guest Mark Teixeira is an outstanding, versatile guitarist with a focus on composition and solo performances. Mark has played in Jazz, R&B and Rock bands across Canada for over thirty-five years and has played with Liberty Silver, Jackie Richardson and Michael Snow.

Refreshments available for purchase. Cubbii Market is pleased to offer a selection of hot and cold beverages plus delicious snacks. This is a free event, sponsored by Markham Village Writers & Markham Arts Council.
