The Alice Munro Short Story Contest



Wouldn’t you like to be able to say you won the Alice Munro Short Story contest? This is a writing contest that’s not to be missed.

Open to all writers with a Canadian connection. Not open to writers who have been commercially published. Pre-published stories are ineligible.

Theme: Renewal.
Length: 5,000 words max.
Prizes for adults: First prize $500; second $300; third $200
Prizes for teens: First prize $300; second $200; third $100
Plus one ticket to the Gala Awards Dinner event on Saturday, September 29.
Entry fee: $20 for adults; free for teens.
Deadline: August 1, 2012
 Winning stories may be published in print or online.

Past winners include: Sherry Isaac (2009), Sandi Plewis (2008), Judith Millar (2006), Carla McLaughlin (2005), Joan van der Meer (2004) and June Frost (2003), all of whom have attended my workshops in the past. After 2009, this contest went into hibernation for a couple years – it’s great to see it back!
