Emily Gref has joined Lowenstein Associates as an Associate Agent and as digital strategist. She also handles foreign and subrights. 

Her interests are wide and varied. In Young Adult and Middle Grade she is looking for all genres, but has a weak spot for fairy tale, folklore, and mythology retellings. Emily is also interested in fantasy and science fiction, as well as literary and commercial women’s fiction.

In nonfiction Emily  is looking for strong narratives and books by recognized experts with a wide-reaching platform. Books that lend themselves well to digital platforms are especially of interest. Non-fiction projects she’d like to take on include narratives about linguistics, anthropology and history. She is also open to biographies and memoirs with a strong voice and unique hook.

Barbara Lowenstein, the founder and senior agent at Lowenstein Associates, is currently looking for writers who have a strong platform and are leading experts in their field, including business, women’s issues, psychology, health, science and social issues, and is particularly interested in strong new voices in fiction and narrative nonfiction. Include the first ten pages of your manuscript pasted in the body of the email.  For nonfiction, please send a one-page query letter, a table of contents, and, if available, a proposal pasted into the body of the email. Please put the word QUERY and the title of your project in the subject field of your email. No attachments.

Note: Meredith Barnes who was formerly an associate agent with Lowenstein has moved to Soho Press as their head of marketing.  Soho is an independent publisher of international crime, mystery, and literary fiction. And in 2012, they will launch a Young Adult mystery line. Soho accepts submissions from unagented authors. See their submission guidelines here.
