The Tobias Agency was founded by agent Lane Heymont
in 2016. It is a full-service literary agency head-quartered in New York with
satellite offices in Boston and Nashville. Currently, Tobias has four agents,
all accepting queries:
Sasha White is the newest member of the team,
and like all new agents, she needs authors.
Sasha
is currently looking for adult fiction, YA, political/historical nonfiction,
memoirs, and world literature in translation. She is drawn to coming-of-age
stories, character-driven fantasy and mystery/crime, working class stories,
diverse voices, and nonfiction that tackles pressing current issues such as
social and political movements.
With
an interest in mythology, classics, and folklore, she would love to see YA
interpretations of epic poems such as the ODYSSEY and the EPIC OF GILGAMESH. In
translation she is looking for works to help bring international voices, in
both fiction and nonfiction, to the U.S.
Sasha
graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Russian Literature. She began
her publishing career as an intern at The Tobias Literary and in the editorial
departments of Foundry Literary and Seven Stories Press.
Ever
since she was electrified by reading Dostoevsky’s CRIME AND PUNISHMENT at the
age of seventeen, she knew literature would play a role in her life beyond
casual enjoyment. Dostoevsky’s dramatic plot twists, abundance of dialogue,
rich and often contradictory characters, and socially relevant themes are among
the elements that catch Sasha’s eye in new books.

Matt Belford is seeking graphic memoirs, graphic novels, adult
science fiction and fantasy, and some popular nonfiction.
He is not interested in YA.
Matt joined the Tobias Agency in January 2020 after
previously working at the David Black Agency and the Aaron M. Priest Agency. He
received his Master in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College.
A lover of all things science fiction and fantasy,
Matt accepts his nerd status readily. Some
of his favorite reads include: THE SUMMONER by Gail Z Martin, KINGS OF THE WYLD
by Nicholas Eames, TRAIL OF LIGHTNING by Rebecca Roanhorse, and RED RISING by
Pierce Brown.

Maria Rogers originally hails from St. Louis, Missouri. She
graduated from Kenyon College before cutting her teeth in the publishing
business as an intern at Writers House. She went on to work as an editorial
assistant at W.W. Norton & Co. and later as an editor at Scholastic.
Her work experience has given
her insight into many realms of reading, from nonfiction and poetry to literary
and commercial fiction, to books for children and young adults.
Maria is accepting both nonfiction and fiction,
including graphic novels. In nonfiction she is currently looing for nonfiction
that explores big events from new angle, whip-smart cultural criticism, and
original and urgent journalism and science writing.
She’s also on the look-out for books to engage kids
in nonfiction topics, from ancient history to contemporary issues.
She is not currently considering
poetry, picture books, romance, science fiction, or fantasy.

For fiction and nonfiction include a
sample of up to 30 pages. For graphic novel submissions, include a synopsis, lo-res
sample images, and links to your portfolio.
Lane Heymont represents a broad range of commercial fiction and
serious nonfiction.
In fiction, he is open to speculative fiction,
horror, thrillers, women’s fiction, romance, and select YA. He prefers
contemporary settings and {like everyone else} is always looking for #Ownvoices
in both fiction and nonfiction.
In nonfiction, he is seeking memoirs, celebrity
projects, science, cultural studies, history, and has a particular interest in
true crime.
Lane began his publishing career in 2012 at the
Seymour Agency and in 2016 formed the Tobias Agency. Lane was the #1 agent for
horror on Publishers Marketplace and in the top ten for women’s fiction and
romance.
