I’m writing to let you know that The Parasol Flower has been named a finalist in the Fiction category of the 28th Annual Hamilton Literary Awards. You’ve been a supporter of mine in the past, and I’m grateful to be able to share this happy news with you! 

A broadcast of readings by all of the category finalists (including my own cringeworthy, single-take performance) will go live on December 16 when they will also announce the winners. Hi, Brian.

– hope this note finds you well. 

I recently won a writing contest for a short piece I submitted in the summer.  “What A Difference A Day Makes” is published on Prose Online.

I had written parts of this piece in much longer forms, the first section most certainly workshopped in your Intensive Writing Class.  I then pieced it together with a host of other longer scenes I’d written and pared it down to about 740 words.  I think I’m becoming a fan of the short form – fewer opportunities to screw up, I suppose, akin to answering a Jeopardy question with just a person’s last name, leaving me to option to screw up on the first name. 

I’ve got another longer piece to be published later in the fall with a Christmas theme.  I’ll keep you posted.
