Congratulations to Justine, Ruth, Ellen, and Shazia

If you’ve had a story (or a book!) published, if you’ve won or placed in a writing contest, if you’ve gotten yourself an agent, or if you have any other news, send me an email so I can share your success. As writers, we’re all in this together, and your good news gives us all a boost.

Also, be sure to let know if you're looking for a writers' group or beta readers; a notice in Quick Brown Fox, will help you find them.

Email me at: brianhenry@sympatico.ca

Hi, Brian.

My picture book Journey of the Midnight Sun based on a true story is being published by ORCA books and will be available March 15, 2022.

It's about a mosque that was transported from Winnipeg to Inuvik by road and then by boat in 2010.

Thank you for all the great classes and workshops that helped me write.

Take care,

Shazia Afzal

You can pre-order Shazia’s book from Orca here. For information about submitting to Orca, see here.

Note: Alas, at this point, it’s too late to sign up for the winter Kid Lit class with two fabulous authors as guest speakers (see here) or for the January 15 one-day Kid Lit workshop with Kids Can Press senior editor Patricia Ocampo (see here), but … send me an email to be first in line for the next Kid Lit workshop or class: brianhenry@sympatico.ca

Hi, Brian.

The Arts & Letters Club of Toronto has just started making members' writings public on the club website. I'm proud to share a short memoir piece of mine there. It's called "Sweet Compromise."

As my book about my high school students grows, you know how much help and support your groups, from a one-day workshop to many series of intensive sessions, have been giving me. Click the button on the link to go directly to my piece,

Best from

Ellen Michelson

You can read Ellen’s piece, “Sweet Compromise” here.

Hi, Brian.

Just a quick note – I’m delighted to announce that my YA science fiction novel is being represented by the lovely Ali McDonald at 5 Otter Literary. I blog about it in Writescape (here).

I always appreciated receiving updates from your newsletters and it was especially helpful when I was in search of an agent. The journey to finding an agent was made less lonely and a lot more focused, thanks to you and the many others sharing tips and insights. The writing community is a great place in which to land.

Trust this finds you well and properly busy but with enough down time to relax and enjoy family and friends as much of the writing world winds down over December.

Best,

Ruth Walker

Hey, Brian!

I just wanted to share the exciting news that I'm, officially, a published writer! My short story, “Warg,” was published today on Commuter Lit.

Thank you for the years of critique, practice and bringing great people together. You've helped make me a better story teller and your classes continue to introduce me to so many incredible writers.

Until next time, happy Monday!

Justine Howard

For information about submitting to CommuterLit, see here. You can read Justine’s story “Warg” on Commuterlit here, but I’ve also republished it on Quick Brown Fox {with way images} here.
