You’re invited to the book launches for The Care and Keeping of Grandmas by Jennifer Mook-Sang in Burlington & Toronto

Dear Brian,

It's been such a fun writing journey with you. Thank you for all your support and encouragement. I'm beyond thrilled to tell you that my picture book The Care and Keeping of Grandmas, illustrated by the brilliant Yong Ling Kang, will be published on April 4th.

And it’s already getting good buzz.

CM Magazine says, “The picture book is full of ironic, humorous moments, both in the text and the illustrations … The book’s contents will also demonstrate to children who are moving that, with love, other people have made it through, and so can they.”

AND, what an honour, Grandmas has been selected by the Dolly PartonImagination Library to be part of their 2023 booklist.

P.S. I'm so happy to say that Tundra has arranged another book launch for The Care and Keeping of Grandmas in Toronto. It would be wonderful to see some friends who live closer to the centre of the universe. LOL! 

On Monday May 1^st from 6:30 till 8:30, there will be a reading and signing at Mabel's Fable's in Toronto (map here). It's a dual book launch with the lovely Pauline Thompson who will be celebrating her debut picture book Hooray for DNA! Grandmas and DNA – it's like these books were meant for each other!

When grandma moves in, a precocious child shares her tips for making her feel at home in this funny picture book, for fans of How to Babysit a Grandma.

It can be discombobulating for all involved when a grandma moves in permanently. Fortunately, our narrator has gone through it and has LOTS of tips on how to make your grandma feel at home.

In a story filled with humor, confusion and moments of sweetness, Jennifer Mook-Sang introduces us to a delightful family dynamic and a grandma who doesn’t really need the help settling in but appreciates it anyway. As Grandma goes about her days, her well-meaning granddaughter sees her caring for her plants, and makes sure that Grandma is getting the proper care, too.

Jennifer Mook-Sang is the author of two picture books and a middle grade novel. She grew up in Guyana and moved to Canada when she was fourteen. While reading bedtime stories to her two sons, she fell in love with picture books and decided to write one of her own. In one of Brian Henry's classes, she found the beginnings of a story.  

That story grew into the humorous middle-grade novel, Speechless, published by Scholastic Canada, and since translated into Portuguese for Brazil (Não Cale! Fale!) and Turkish (Bir Konuşabilse).

Speechless won the Surrey Schools Book of the Year Award, was shortlisted for many others, and was recommended by the Ontario Library Association, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, the CBC, and the TD Summer Reading Club. 

Jennifer has also published a picture book, Captain Monty Takes the Plunge, with Kids Can Press. Captain Monty is the boldest, stinkiest pirate to sail the six or seven seas; in fact, he’s never had a bath. Naturally, the Junior Library Guild immediately selected him for its fall list of recommended books; it was short-listed for the Rainforest of Reading Award; and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre put it on its best books of the year list.
