Latitude 46 Publishing, based in Sudbury, Ontario, seeks submissions for A Thousand Tiny Awakenings, a forthcoming anthology that explores the creative voice of those 18–30 years of age.

Latitude 46 is also open to book-length submissions from northern authors. You don’t have to write about the north, but they prioritize stories inspired by or based in the region.

Regarding A Thousand Tiny Awakenings:

Editors Connor Lafortune, a recent graduate from Nipissing University, a citizen of Dokis First Nation and poet, and Lindsay Mayhew, a recent graduate from Laurentian University and poet, are seeking poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction and visual arts that explore the themes of breaking oppressive boundaries and structures.

“A Thousand Tiny Awakenings will offer readers a glimpse into how a new generation perceives the world and how using their own power can shape the future.”

All fiction/nonfiction submissions must be between 1,000 and 6,000 words

Can submit up to 3 poems

Artists can submit a maximum of 10 visual art pieces (jpg file)

Pays $200 honorarium and two copies of the anthology.

PulpLiterature publishes a quarterly anthology and “good books for the price of a beer,” mostly anthologies. Currently, they’re accepting poetry submissions (pays $25 – $50. Guidelines here.   

Plus they have a contest opening in September: The Raven Short Story Contest, for flash fiction and short fiction 250 – 2,500 words: 

“We Pulp Literature editors collect stories like ravens in the woods, swooping down on what catches our eye and bringing the treasures — sometimes sparkling, sometimes grisly, but always fascinating — home to our nests.  Show us your most scintillating treasures in the form of short fiction up to 2500 words in length and you could be the one bringing home $300 to line your nest!”

This contest is for previously unpublished short fiction between 250 and 2500 words in length.  Multiple entries welcome.  Total entries limited to 200.
