Short list announced for the Scotiabank Giller Prize

There are five nominees in line for the $50,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize:

Will Ferguson, though known as a humourist, is nominated for his dark thriller 419 (Penguin Canada).

Kim Thuy for her autobiographical novel Ru, translated from French to English by Sheila Fischman (Random House Canada). Ru is also a finalist for a Governor General`s Award; see here. 

U.S.-based Montrealer Alix Ohlin for Inside (Random House) a modern tale about four intertwined characters.  Inside is also on the short list for the Roger’s Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize; see here.)

Montreal's Nancy Richler for her mid-century set novel The Imposter Bride (HarperCollinsCanada)

Halifax-raised, St. John's-based journalist and author Russell Wangersky for his short story collection Whirl Away (Thomas Allan & Son)
