WhiteFire Publishing is a Christian publisher with four imprints: Chrism Press, stories informed by Catholic and Orthodox Christianity but not preachy; Ashbury Lane, heartfelt stories of faith with a focus on romance; WhiteFire, fiction and nonfiction meant to make you laugh, cry, and grow your faith; and WhiteSpark, stories for young readers.

Chrism Press is dedicated to stories informed by Catholic and Orthodox Christianity that may not be able to find a home in either mainstream secular or Christian (Evangelical) presses. These two ancient faiths share a sacramental and incarnational vision that illuminates the imagination, as well as a centuries-old literary tradition spanning from Dante to Dostoevsky and beyond.

Whether Christian themes are presented overtly, subtly, or symbolically, Chrism Press seeks Spirit-filled fiction in all genres. “We are not afraid of darkness; we enjoy the strange and the weird, as well as humor, romance, adventure, and fun. We strongly believe that fiction should never be boring. We invite readers to ‘Anoint Your Imagination’ with a wide array of stories that enlighten while they entertain.”

Ashbury Lane is seeking full-length novels (60 – 100,000 words) in all romance genres.

As with all WhiteFire books, “we’re seeking stories that embrace the motto of ‘Where Spirit Meets the Page.‘ We love books with a strong hook, engaging characters, and where the light of the Lord comes shining through. Faith themes don’t necessarily have to be overt, but all our books must uphold our beliefs.”

WhiteFire Publishing seeks books where it’s obvious the author is passionate about his or her topic, and where that Spirit-led passion comes through to the reader in vivid writing and well-executed plotting.

Nonfiction: “We crave manuscripts that sing and present their topic with passion and authority. We have no particular requirements for subject matter, but all subjects must be handled in ways that are at the least unoffensive to evangelical Christians or which are overtly Christian in nature. We like projects that deal with hard-hitting issues, but they must be handled in ways that point back to the moral beliefs our company upholds.

“We welcome submissions of narrative nonfiction, memoirs, inspirational, Christian Living, and other subjects as well. We are not interested in poetry at this time. Nonfiction should be 40 – 80,000 words.”

Fiction: “We are looking for Christian fiction of all genres. Novels should be 60 – 150,000 words.

“We are more lenient with our subject matter than some of the larger Christian Booksellers Association (CBA) publishers, but our books must be marketable to Christian bookstores. That means no vulgar language, no explicit on-page love scenes, and by the end of the book the character(s) ought to have experienced a growth of faith.

“WhiteFire is a fan of books that deal with difficult issues that Christians face in reality, but we believe everything should point back to the Lord. If your characters face sexual temptation or even falter, for example, that is fine – but they must recognize it as sin and arrive at the Biblical viewpoint on it.

“Amazing writing leads the day, and we love stories that take risks. We are open to historicals (exotic settings welcome!), historical romance, biblical fiction, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, women’s fiction, suspense, supernatural thrillers, speculative, and are receptive to queries on other genres aimed at adults as well.”

WhiteSpark publishes Picture Books – submit text or with illustrations; Middle Grade Novels – both upper and lower MG; and Young Adult Novels – all genres.
