Intensive Creative Writing course, Burlington, Ontario, June 19 – August 14

"Woman Writing" oil on linen
by Valerie Hardy.
Eight weeks of creative growth
Tuesday afternoons, 12:45 – 3:00 p.m.
First set of readings distributed June 19.
Classes run June 26 to August 14, 2012.
Appleby United Church, 4407 Spruce Ave, Burlington. (Map
here.)

This course is for people who are working on their own writing. The format is similar to the "Intermediate" and "Extreme" courses: Over the eight classes, you’ll be asked to bring in four pieces of your writing for detailed feedback. All your pieces may be from the same work, such as a novel in progress, or they may be stand alone pieces. You bring whatever you want to work on.

Besides critiquing pieces, the instructor will give short lectures at the start of each class, addressing the needs of the group.

In addition to learning how to critique your own work and receiving constructive suggestions about your writing, you’ll discover that the greatest benefits come from seeing how your classmates approach and critique a piece of writing and how they write and re-write. This is a challenging course, but extremely rewarding.

Instructor
Brian Henry has been a book editor and creative writing teacher for more than 25 years. He teaches at Ryerson University and has led writing workshops everywhere from Boston to Buffalo and from Sarnia to Charlottetown. But his proudest boast is that he's helped many of his students get published.

    1. Hi, Nothy.

I’ll be starting this course up again in January on Wednesday afternoons in Burlington at Appleby United Church
and I’ll be leading a similar course on Wednesday evenings, also at Appleby church.
Let me know if you’d like me to reserve a spot for you.
For that matter, I have space in the Tuesday afternoon Intensive course on leading right now at Appleby.
You’ve missed a couple classes, but it’s a 12-week course, so if you’d like to start partway through, it’s no problem.
And of course we’ll pro-rate the fee.
If you’re interested, let me know right away.

Also, I have put you on my newsletter list. Look for emails To: Brian Henry.
      Other recipients are blind-copied.

      All the best,
      - Brian
