Free contest, $30,000 in prizes; Southword Journal pays for poems and stories; and Alice Munro and Elora Writers short story contests

Second annual Kobo emerging writer prize. Free contest – three $10,000 prizes
Award includes monetary prize and marketing support for debut books in three categories: Literary Fiction, Genre Fiction - Romance, and Non-Fiction 
Three categories: Literary Fiction, Genre Fiction (this year Romance, with a different genre showcased each year), and Non-Fiction. Traditionally published and self-published books are eligible for submission. Each winning author will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize as well as promotional, marketing, and communications support. No entry fee.
Submissions will be accepted at www.kobo.com/emergingwriter until March 11 for debut books published in 2015 by Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Submissions can be made by publishers or directly by authors. A winning book from each category will be chosen through a judging process led by top Canadian authors – Camilla Gibb for Non-Fiction; Gail Anderson-Dargatz for Literary Fiction; and Lynsay Sands for Genre Fiction (Romance).

Southword Journal Online (published at least twice yearly by The Munster Literature Centre) seeks poems and prose (in English and Irish) for their summer issue. Payment for accepted pieces: €30/poem and/or €120/story.

Alice Munro Short Story Contest
$1,500 prize for adults,  $500 prize for youth, and $500 prize for an emerging GTA author between the ages of 20 – 30. Sponsored by the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. Must be living in the GTA or have grown up in that area.  Entry fee: $25 for adults; $10 for youth.
The winning entry will be the Canadian work of up to 2,500 words in the English language, fiction, written by an author not yet published in book format.

 1. Adult: Age 20+ (Entry fee $15; Prizes $200, $150, $100) (Canadian writers only, please)
2. Teen*: Age 15-19  (Prizes $200, $150, $100)
3. Youth*: Age 14 and under (Prizes $150, $100, $50)
*Open to young writers who reside in Wellington, Waterloo, Dufferin, Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth counties/regions.
