CANSCAIP {The Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers} has announced the winners and finalists of the 2023 Writing for Children Competition, and Catherine McKenzie from our Thursday afternoon “Extreme” class in Burlington has won with her middle grade entry, A Drop in the Ocean.
Yay, Catherine!
Each of the three winners {for picture book, middle grade, and young
adult} receives $500. Plus, CANSCAIP sends the winners' and finalists' entries to Annick
Press, Kids Can Press, and Scholastic Canada. This is not a bad way to get your
manuscript in front of an editor’s eyes 😊. Also, the editors give you feedback
on your entry.
The 2023 Writing for Children Competition received more than 600 entries. Every entry receives written feedback from the first round of evaluations. Entries that advance to the second round receive additional written feedback. And then the winners and runners-up receive even more feedback.
