Fine Print Literary Management

FinePrint Literary Management launched in September 2007 as the merger of the Peter Rubie Literary Agency and the Imprint Agency.
With 11 agents on their roster, Fine Print represents works in many categories, including non-fiction and a wide range of fiction, both literary and commercial, including thrillers, mysteries, fantasy, women’s, romance, chick lit, YA and middle grade readers. They don't represent poetry, plays, screenplays, or children’s picture books.
Suzie Townsend it the newest member of the team. She joined Fine Print as an intern (after 6 years as a high school English teacher) and is now an agent and an assistant to Fine Print CEO Peter Rubie.
She is seeking: everything from children’s books (chapter books to YA, both fiction and nonfiction) to adult fiction (speculative, fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, and romance, especially paranormal). She gravitates toward strong female protagonists, complex plot lines with underlying political, moral, or philosophical issues, and stories that break out of the typical tropes of their genre, like Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series.
She likes select narrative nonfiction (with special interest in food, memoir, pets, pop culture, and teaching). She's not interested in screenplays, poetry, or picture books.
"With queries," says Suzie, "I’m actually most interested in short and sweet. I want to know as quickly and concisely as possible what the book is about. I’m also a big fan of sarcasm so I like reading queries with sarcastic and witty tone – but of course that only works if it also reflects the tone of the book.
"What’s actually most important to me is the first chapter of the work. FinePrint requests that authors paste the first chapter or the first 5-10 pages of the manuscript in the bottom of the email. I’ve read a few queries that weren’t all that strong, but then something about the first chapter – usually the description and/or the voice – has really grabbed me, and I’ve gone ahead and requested the manuscript."
For fiction and memoir, query suzie@fineprintlit.com
Include the word count and your full contact information in the query, and paste the first 5 - 10 pages of your manuscript into your query (no attachments).
For non-fiction, query only.

240 West 35th Street
Suite 500
New York, NY 10001

Suzie Townsend joins Nancy Coffey Literary, seeks fiction, middle grade to adult
Nancy Coffey Literary Media Representation
240 West 35th Street, Suite 500
New York, NY 10001
http://nancycoffeyliterary.com/
Suzie Townsend has joined Nancy Coffey Literary & Media Representation as a full-time agent, concentrating on fiction from middle grade to adult. She spent the past three years at FinePrint Literary Management.
She is interested character-driven YA and adult fiction – fantasy, science fiction, paranormal and romance. I gravitate towards strong female protagonists, complex plot lines with underlying political, moral, or philosophical issues, and stories which break out of the typical tropes of their genre, like Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series.
Her pet peeves include diabolical monologues, romance without plot or character development, and damsel in distress protagonists.
Suzie says, “I love being able to read everything I can get my hands on, discuss books with people I meet in publishing, and help an author’s vision turn into something real.”
About the Agency: Nancy Coffey Literary & Media Representation describes itself as a full service, boutique literary agency.
"Our guiding philosophy is to make the author's publishing experience as rewarding as possible within today's challenging publishing atmosphere. We are highly selective and keep our client list small so we can be involved in all aspects of bringing a book to its widest audience, from getting the manuscript submission-ready, to negotiating the most advantageous contracts, to advising the author on post-publication book promotion.
"Our clients range from first-time writers to well established authors in both adult and children's literature, New York Times and USA Today bestsellers as well as award-winning authors. Our focus is on building careers, and we look for a strong storytelling voice combined with the writing ability, whether commercial or literary, to bring that voice to life."

Penny Moore is the latest edition to the team at FinePrint, and like all new agents, she needs authors. Penny represents picture books, middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction. She’s also open to nonfiction projects in the realm of pop culture, humor, travel, food, and pets.
In picture books she’s looking for anything with
fun off-the-wall concepts to memorable heartfelt messages. As for MG and YA,
she’s interested in all genres, and is seeking inventive works that combine
well-defined voice, complex characters, and compelling plot lines. She’s
especially keen on YA fantasy, historical fiction, sci-fi, and contemporary
stories exploring romance and the complications of growing up.
In adult fiction, her tastes lean towards literary,
speculative fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, psychological thrillers, and select
romance projects including New Adult.
While completing degrees in Linguistics and
Japanese Language & Literature at the University of Georgia, she spent time
studying comparative literature at top universities in Japan and South Korea.
She then worked as a middle school TESOL teacher, a period during which she
grew to love and understand the children’s book market. In 2013 she found her
way to FinePrint as an intern, officially joining the agency in 2014, and has
since been actively working to build her list with exceptionally talented
clients.

at New Leaf are of special interest, because they’re new, and like all new
agents, they’re hungry for clients:
Janet Reid has joined New Leaf Literary & Media as
director of literary development and as a literary agent. Previously she was an
agent at FinePrint
Literary Management. Janet
Reid specializes in narrative non-fiction and compelling crime fiction.
Her
publishing background includes fifteen years in book publicity with clients

Danielle
Barthel,
assistant agent. Danielle is seeking Upmarket Woman’s fiction, Historical
fiction, Romance, Unique Lifestyle books and Cookbooks.
Following her completion
of the Denver Publishing Institute after graduation, Danielle began interning
at Writers
House. While there, she realized she wanted to put her English degree and
love of the written word to work at a literary agency. She worked as a
full-time assistant for three years, and continues to help keep the New Leaf
offices running smoothly in her role of Coordinator of Team and Client
Services. In her downtime, she can be found with a cup of tea, a bar of
chocolate, or really good book … sometimes all together.

Jackie
Lindert, associate
agent: Jackie says she’s “looking for a unique voice, one that feels fresh and different and makes me think in new ways. Regardless of genre, those are the books I
can’t get out of my head, and the ones I want to share.”
More generally, she’s seeking
YA and upmarket adult projects, with bonus points for political undertones.
She is looking for voice-driven fiction and narrative non-fiction for adults
and teens, especially stories featuring underrepresented characters and topics.
She has a soft spot for history or anything featuring a strong female lead.
Jackie earned her B.A. in
English in her home state of Wisconsin before trekking to Colorado to attend
the Denver Publishing Institute. Her first job in publishing was in subsidiary
rights at Penguin Random House, following an internship at none other than New
Leaf Literary. After assisting the agency’s literary department for two years,
Jackie now works directly with lead agent Joanna Volpe and is happily building
her own list.

New Leaf Literary is a young agency, led by Joanna Volpe who was previously with Nancy Coffey Literary. Joanna represents all kinds of fiction, from picture books to adult, and like all five agents at New Leaf, she's taking on new clients.
Joanna’s
picture book taste is the most eclectic, ranging from sweet to fun to smart to
quirky. For other fiction (both adult and children's) she has an affinity for
stories that have a darker element to them, whether they be horror, drama or
comedy. She's not the kind of reader that needs a romance in her novels, though
she does appreciate a good one.
On the nonfiction
side her tastes are much more specific. For children she looks for topics
that captivate kids: biographies, animal-related stories, all sciences and
history, etc. Joanna also has an affinity for morbid, weird or offbeat topics.
In her adult nonfiction tastes she tends toward all things geek-related, foodie
books, travel books, and general pop-culture and pop-science.
Overall,
she's looking for anything that highlights under-represented characters. More
diversity, please!

specifically fresh, new voices in YA and animator/illustrator talent. In YA she
gravitates more toward beautiful and exceptional world building as well as
contemporary stories whose main characters stay with the reader far beyond the
pages. She would love to see a beautifully written YA set within other cultures
and experiences.
On the illustration side, she loves
animator/illustrators and their unique way of storytelling.

Director of Literary Services and is also a literary agent. She represents all
brands of children's and adult fiction. She is actively looking to build
her list. In adult, she's specifically looking for new adult, romance (all
subgenres), fantasy (urban fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, epic fantasy)
and crime fiction (mysteries, thrillers). In Childrens' she loves YA (all
subgenres) and is dying to find great Middle Grade projects.
Suzie loves
strong characters and voice driven stories that break out of the typical tropes
of their genres.

Mackenzie Brady Watson joined New
Leaf Literary as an agent in 2014. Previously, she'd been an agent at Charlotte
Sheedy Literary Agency and before that an intern at Farrar, Straus & Giroux
and FinePrint
Literary Management.
Mackenzie was a microbiologist in her
pre-publishing life, so she's always on the hunt for projects that bring new
facets of science to light. She is endlessly fascinated by the human body,
especially the heart. Her taste in nonfiction extends beyond science books to
memoirs, lost histories, epic sports narratives, and gift/lifestyle books.
She's looking for nonfiction for all ages. She is particularly interested
in projects with a strong narrative and a female bend.
If you've written the next Brain on Fire, The Power of Habit, Random Family, The Boys in the Boat,
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Autobiography of an Execution, or Young House Love, she wants to see
it.
On the fiction side, Mackenzie only represents
select upmarket commercial/literary adult and YA projects. Her favorite
novels range from philosophical and charming (read: The Submission, Station
Eleven, The Spectacular Now) to downright dark and gritty (read: The
Dinner, We Were Liars, We the Animals). She also represents illustrators
with or without book projects of their own.
In the end, all she wants is to be told a good
story.
