Congratulations to Kelly, Emily, Colleen, Jen, Barb, and Laura!

If you’ve had a story (or a book!) published, if you’ve won or placed in a writing contest, if you’ve gotten yourself an agent, or if you have any other news, send me an email so I can share your success. And be sure to let know if you're looking for a writers' group or beta readers; a notice in Quick Brown Fox, will help you find them.

Hi, Brian.

I had a successful submission to the Emerging Writers Reading Series based in Toronto, and I’ll be reading live over Zoom!

It’s a personal essay called “Choose Your Ending” that I wrote in 2018, and valued the opportunity to workshop it during our summer Intensive Class.

I’m also so grateful to the classmate who alerted me to this as a submission opportunity!

Hi, Brian.

In your Aug 27 blog (which I noticed on FB on Aug 30), you included a tip for the Blank Spaces Magazine fiction anthology contest. The deadline was Aug 31, and I entered a short story that day. I’m pleased to say my story was among those selected for the short list of eight finalists!

Thanks for the tip, and thank you for all the information you provide to writers.

Hello, Brian.

Great news! I placed 2nd in a photo prompt contest for Blank Space magazine. This is a free contest; your readers can find the next prompt here. The deadline in January 10, 2022.

As well I placed 1st and 8th in my group in the first two challenges in the NYC Midnight flash fiction contest. This gave me enough points to progress to the 3rd challenge. Hopefully I’ll be updating you next month with news that I’ve moved on to the final round.

I’m participating in NaNoWriMo this year and on track to finish a romance I’m hoping to submit to Harlequin, all while I am editing the novel I began back in your intensive class last year. It’s been a busy few months with this writing but I love it.

I can’t thank you enough for all the support and encouragement you’ve given me since that first introductory course. My goal is to be published and see you holding up my book in your classes and workshops!

All the best,

Jen

Hi, Brian.

I'm writing to let you know my story "Victim of the Night" was published on Commuterlit.com this week.

My thanks to you for your wonderful Intensive class where we fine-tuned this story, and to all my fellow students in that group.

Great fun and great connections! Hope to join you again soon!!

Hi, Brian.

My article on Catherine the Great has been published. Unfortunately, the magazine put it behind a paywall, but maybe for $2 you could subscribe for a month and then cancel it. Sorry about that. I thought this would be featured on the free blog.

Also, my piece on "Glass Delusion" has just been published by Inspire the Mind!

Hi Brian:

I am thrilled to announce I have a short story published in the #45, Fall Issue of The Hamilton Stone Review, Maplewood, MJ, U.S. It's called The Voice Inside My Head. I'm thrilled to be included along with so many great writers: Amy Cotler, Rosaleen Bertolino, Lynda Schor, for example.

I've also recently had a poem published, “Venus with Hat,” in the Doorways and Thresholds Anthology, by Overneath Books, U.K. @overneathbooks.

Thanks for all the market suggestions and newsletters, they are inspring!

Thanks again,

Sincerely,

Kelly Watt
