Congratulations to Matteo for a 2-book deal with Penguin Random House and to Barbara, Toni, and Robyn!

If you’ve had a story (or a book!) published, if you’ve won or placed in a writing contest, if you’ve gotten yourself an agent, or if you have any other news, send me an email so I can share your success. As writers, we’re all in this together, and your good news gives us all a boost.

Also, be sure to let know if you're looking for a writers' group or beta readers; a notice in Quick Brown Fox, will help you find them.

Hi, Brian.

Hope this note finds you safe and happy. Been sitting on some exciting news — one of your former students, (met at your How to Get Published workshop and we took on as a client) has just signed a two-book contract with Penguin Random House Canada! I’ve copied the deal announcement below for your interest:

Quill & Quire

Tundra Books editor Peter Phillips has acquired world rights to debut author Matteo L. Cerilli’s young adult horror novel LOCKJAW, and a second untitled YA novel. Told in multiple perspectives, LOCKJAW is set in a small town where monsters living and dead haunt the streets, the homes, and the minds of the inhabitants, and a diverse group of teens will have to face down an evil they may not be able to kill, pitched as for fans of Rory Power, Rose Szabo, and Danielle Vega. Publication is scheduled for summer 2024 and 2025 respectively. The deal was arranged by Ali McDonald of 5 Otter Literary.

Best wishes,

Olga Filina

Hi, Brian.

Hurray! I just heard from Chicken Soup. One of my stories, “I’m Sorry for the Inconvenience,” will be in their November book – My Wonderful Wacky Family.

I told my bouncy castle story to Nancy, Gaurav, Lisa, Evelyn, Janice and Dale at your Briers writing retreat a few falls ago. After they picked themselves off the floor, they said I need to write it down - so I did.

A paid publication and I get some free books! Bonus. Now I know what everyone will be getting for Christmas.

I hope you and your family are having a great summer.

Hi, Brian.

I’ve self-published my novel, The Scent of Lilacs. Please see this link (here) and share with others who may be interested. Thank you.

Thanks for your help, patience, and encouragement throughout my journey.

Hope to see you down the road.

Hi, Brian.

How are you? I have a little bit of exciting news, I thought you’d be happy to hear. My short story “Crow,” that I workshopped last year, received an Honourable Mention in the Lorian Hemingway International short story contest. I am so thrilled!

Your classes really make a difference. Thanks so much.

Best,

Robyn Thomas
