You're invited to the launch of Dance Into the Light by Beverley Brewer

Dear Brian,

Last spring, at the Sherwood Retreat, I read from my memoir for the first time. With appreciation, I recall the group’s openness and your invaluable feedback in our private session in that chilly sun porch. I am happy to share that my memoir, Dance into the Light, published by Denim Press, went out into the world on October 1.

Dance into the Light can be ordered from anyone’s favourite bookstore, and it is available at on-line stores like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Chapters/Indigo. The e-book version is available through Kindle, Kobo and Apple. Signed copies can be obtained at one of my launches.

I’ll be hosting two launches in Toronto: at The Epochal Imp (formally Mandy’s) on October 21, 2–4 p.m., but that one has a waiting list. However, there’s still room at the launch on October 28, 2–5 p.m., at 20 Scrivner Square (near the Summerhill subway station).

Warm regards,

Bev

Dance into the Light by Beverley Brewer tells the story of the author’s process of recovery from her almost maternal attachment to a younger sister who had spiralled into addiction and suicide. As if discovering her sister hanging in her father’s den closet was not enough, in the same twenty-two months, Beverley also endured her mother’s death, her father’s move into long-term care and her husband’s stage four cancer.

From her personal and professional experience, Beverley shows how mental illness, especially when denied and untreated, can be devastating for family members, friends and the community who wanted nothing better than for the disease to go away. She writes about how her youngest sister’s alcoholism played havoc with her their relationship, and how the author almost lost herself in her attempts to save her sister.

Beverley illuminates how she embraced community, personal therapy, self-exploration, her faith and her friendships in a journey to mourn and reclaim personal identity.

Dance Into the Light can be ordered from Chapters here.
