Margaret Bail joins Andrea Hurst literary agency, seeks romance & other commercial fiction

Literary agent Margaret Bail is the newest member of Andrea Hurst & Associates. Andrea has a BA in English and an MFA in Creative and Professional Writing. 

With years of experience editing everything from medical documents to manuscripts, as well as teaching university-level English and writing, she looks forward to working closely with new and established authors to help develop their voice and craft.

Margaret is only interested in adult books, specifically…

In Fiction:
  • Romance – all subgenres except Christian or inspirational. (“I love romance, so send your stories my way!”)
  • Science fiction (including dystopian and post-apocalyptic)
  • Thrillers/action adventure
  • Historical fiction
  • Westerns
  • Fantasy (think Song of Fire and Ice or Dark Tower NOT Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia)
She is not interested in steampunk, Christian/religious literature, chick lit, poetry, or screenplays.

In Nonfiction:
  • Narrative nonfiction
  • Memoir with an interesting or unique hook
  • Cookbooks with a strong platform
  • True crime

Tpe “Query” plus the title of your novel in the subject line, then please send the following in the body of the e-mail to:
  • A query letter that includes the title, genre, and word count of your project; a brief blurb about the story; and a brief bio including any publishing credits.
  • The first 10 pages of your manuscript
  • A brief synopsis (1-2 pages)

However, before you submit, though, the best way to get your manuscript into shape is with a weekly course. This summer, Brian will be leading Intensive Creative Writing courses on Tuesday afternoons in Burlington (details here) and on Thursday evenings in Mississauga (details here).
